Long river trip in India ( Garhwal )

Postby swamis » Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:32 pm

We recently did a river run of Upper Alaknanda Section in Garhwal.
This was from Chamoli till Rudraprayag, which has Class IV+ to Class V kind of white water.. this section has been rarely run till now. We now open it in commercial manner.

Opening of this section makes a long river trip possible on Alaknanda river..

Chamoli-Rudraprayag ( Class IV+ , V ) - 3 days
Rudraprayag-Deoprayag ( Class III ) - 3 days
Deoprayag-Kaudiyala ( Class II+ ) - 2 days
Kaudiyala-Rishikesh ( Class III+ ) - 3 days

In all it makes up a very beautiful eleven+ days continuous trip ( without any dams in the middle ) which has wonderful white water. The camp sites are beautiful and the water is crystal clear.

Best time to do this would be March/early april and Oct late to Nov end

Happy Paddling

I was kayaking on these sections last April. Fantastic sections with some great rapids. Would make a great raft trip.
