1) BIDDING FOR 2005 WORLD RAFTING CHAMPS
The date for receiving bids has passed and we are very happy to tell you we
have received no less than FIVE well put together bids! These bids were
received from:
Ecuador
Indonesia
Mexico
Philippines
Uganda
These bids
have been assessed by the IRF BOD. The process now is that a short list is
being drawn up for round two and these bids will undergo further assessment. A
third list will be drawn up for scouting trips and then the final decision
will be made. We will keep you informed with these developments.
In the
meantime we would like to thank those that entered their bids and hope that we
all get a chance to compete in your countries soon, whether it is for the WRC
or for another international event. The standard of the bids was very high.
This is extremely encouraging for the future of the sport of rafting.

2) EURO CUP
The Euro Cup series is being launched officially this year. This is a series
of international events, class C, aimed at developing cooperation between
federations and helping to widen the range of teams that paddle at
international events. Rules can be found at www.e-rafting.info/rafting/rules/04EC.asp.
A number of people have worked very hard to get the Euro Cup up to this level
and in particular we can thank Stan Hajek and Robert Kazik.
The 2004 Euro
Cup will be launched at the first event which will be held on the Salza in
Austria in April (see below).

4) SAD NEWS
We regret to have to announce the sad news that on the 17 January 2004 two
members of the Czech WRC team, Jiri Kafka and Jan Trefny, were buried in an
avalanche while climbing in the West Tatra mountains. They sadly will never be
able to defend their titles of world champions. They will be missed by all the
paddling community.
